Much like Apple's iPad Pro, this is a tablet that's priced like a laptop, but its mobile operating system holds it back when it comes to productivity. Its saving grace is the S Pen, making the Tab S3 brilliant for sketching and note-taking—but that may not be worth $ We've been down this road before. Android- and iOS-powered tablets make terrific media consumption gadgets, and their respective styli let them dip into productivity. Apps that look and feel like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and other high-end creator titles appear on the Apple and Google Play app stores. But they lack the full functionality you get from Windows. That's fine when you're paying less than you would for a similar Windows tablet, but once you get into the $600-$800 range, you don't want to have to make compromises. Physical Design The Galaxy Tab S3 is a big, silvery slab with a glass back. At by by inches HWD and ounces, it's slightly thinner and lighter than the iPad Pro by by inches, ounces. Similar Products That glass back makes me nervous. It's pretty enough, but I don't see the point, other than making the tablet more breakable. After all, the Galaxy Tab S2 has a nice matte back, and the iPad line does just fine with metal. The glass here is Gorilla Glass 4, and it's not slippery, which is well and good, but it really feels like a potential point of failure. The front and rear cameras are both positioned to be used in portrait mode. On the bottom, there's a USB-C charging and syncing port that supports Qualcomm Quickcharge and a headphone jack. The 2,048-by-1,536, screen appears identical to the one on the Galaxy Tab S2. It has the perfect blacks and brilliant colors that only AMOLED can produce, and makes iPads feel a little washed out. Samsung says it supports HDR, but right now the only examples of HDR you can find are a few streaming videos on Amazon; there just isn't enough content for this to be a meaningful feature yet. Performance The Tab S3 runs Android Nougat on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM. That's far more powerful, processor-wise, than the chip in the Galaxy Tab S2 a Samsung Exynos, and you can see the difference primarily in gaming frame rates On the GFXBench Manhattan test, the new tablet gets 33 fps where the old one got 7. Better graphics and processor performance also contribute to the butter-smooth feeling of using the S Pen in drawing and note-taking applications. Faster processor performance isn't really perceivable in other uses, such as the browser or office apps. This is, obviously, not stock Android—is it ever?—but Samsung has really dialed back the bloatware. The redundant web browser and music player are gone, in favor of Google's options. Samsung's proprietary dual-window multitasking still has a few useful features added in Quick Connect lets you fling content to TVs and set-top boxes that support it, and you can download a free Kids Mode for parental controls. But as very few people have a TabPro S, it ends up being much less useful than Apple's Continuity, as it's unlikely to work on your desktop. The Tab S3 we tested is a Wi-Fi-only model, although carriers will sell an LTE version in the future. Wi-Fi performance was absolutely spectacular in testing, especially on the 5GHz band, where I got faster uplink than on the Galaxy Tab S2. The tablet supports dual-band The tablet only comes in one memory size, 32GB, of which is free. You can add a microSD card to a slot on the side to provide up to 256GB more storage, but you can't use Google's Adoptable Storage to merge that with internal storage. Battery life is excellent on the 6,000mAh cell We got 9 hours, 9 minutes on our video streaming test, which outpaced the five and a half hours we saw with the iPad Pro. And that was at full screen brightness, which is very, very bright; you're more likely to use the tablet at half brightness, where it would surely outlast its promised 12 hours. S Pen and Keyboard You're here for the S Pen. While you can get a great media consumption tablet for $200 less than the Tab S3, Samsung's Wacom-powered plastic pen sets this slate apart from both competitors and its predecessor. The included S Pen is a flattened oval with a tip and an action button on the side. Because it's flattened, it doesn't roll away. Serious pen users, though, should spring for the Staedtler S Pencil, which looks and feels just like a classic European pencil. Unfortunately, we don't have a date or price for that accessory yet. I found this to be the most accurate iteration of the S Pen ever In OneNote, Evernote, and Autodesk Sketchbook, it didn't drop any lines or dots tapped on the screen. It's definitely pressure-sensitive, with pressure showing up in a wide range of art apps, but it isn't tilt-sensitive. For taking notes, it's superior to the Apple Pencil $ at AmazonOpens in a new window because it's lighter and less fatiguing. It's also cheaper to replace, at $79 vs. $99, and has no battery, so it doesn't need to be charged. Irritatingly, there's nowhere to stash the S Pen unless you get the $129 keyboard case pictured here, which has a loop on the side that the pen tucks into. The loop does not fit the S Pencil, which slides out of it. For the record, Apple also doesn't offer a place to put your Apple Pencil, but Samsung didn't need to repeat that mistake. The keyboard case connects via magnet and has clicky keys. It's a four-row keyboard with dedicated number and arrow keys, which is great, but the keys are just a bit too small at just about a half-inch wide each, as compared with around five-eighths of an inch on a full laptop or desktop keyboard for long typing sessions. Audio and Video Samsung, like Apple, went for quad speakers here. The speakers can tell which rotation you're in; the top ones play "near field" sound and the bottom ones "far field," to give you a sense of space. They're 6db louder than the Galaxy Tab S2's speakers, but I still found them to be noticeably tinny rather than rich. Also, if you're holding the tablet in landscape mode, you're probably blocking two of the speakers with your hands, a problem that most tablets including Apple's have. The Tab S3 has a 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The main camera records 1080p and 4K video in any lighting conditions. The front camera also does well with 1080p and 4K video, so video chatting is not a problem. Still pictures are another story We weren't impressed with either camera. Photos taken with the main camera often looked like they had a haze or veil over them, prompting us to wipe the lens, which didn't help. The front-facing camera showed heavy artifacting when we looked at photos pixel for pixel. Comparisons and Conclusions No other Android tablet has the Galaxy Tab S3's specs. But no other Android tablet except for the occasional Sony slate has the Galaxy Tab S3's price. At $ or $ with the keyboard, the Tab S3 competes with not only the iPad Pro, but with Windows detachables like the Lenovo Miix 510 and the Acer Switch Alpha 12, and that's where it runs into trouble. The Tab S3 makes a great media consumption, sketching, and note-taking device. For pure media consumption, though, you might as well go for the Asus Zenpad 3S 10 or the new iPad and save yourself $200 or more. For true productivity, meanwhile, Android still feels weak and crippled compared with the full Windows versions of apps like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and even web browsers that include Flash and Java. The iPad Pro faces the same dilemma. So, I'll repeat You're here for the S Pen or even better, the S Pencil. The Galaxy Tab S3 is ready to capture your ideas, bubbling over in script or image. A Samsung, mesmo notando que cada vez menos pessoas compram tablets, resolveu trazer para o Brasil a terceira geração do Galaxy Tab S, com nome de Tab que ele consegue dar um tapa na concorrência e brilhar? É o que vamos te mostrar neste de S7 esticadoSe você olhar para o Galaxy Tab S3 e o S7, vai notar algumas semelhanças bem grandes. Isso está longe de ser ruim, já que o conjunto de metal e vidro tem um poder especial de deixar smartphones e tablets, extremamente elegantes. O problema fica na capacidade do vidro de amar marcas de dedos. Sério, o Tab S3 ama a oleosidade dos seus dedos da mesma forma como o smartphone, só que o corpo dele é bem maior e você nota estas marcas com mais para o visual e esquecendo, ou tentando esquecer das marcas de dedo, o Tab S3 é premium de praticamente qualquer ângulo. Seja pelo cuidado de tornar o metal fosco nas bordas, ou pelo toque liso vidro. Ele é premium e deixa bem claro isso. Indo até mesmo para a cor da S Pen, que acompanha o pacote e a cor escolhida do tablet. E sobre ela, eu falo mais parte da frente as comparações com smartphones da própria Samsung continuam. Ele vem com exatamente os mesmos três botões dos Galaxy mais recentes. Dois sensíveis ao toque e um, no meio, que funciona como leitor de impressões digitais e que é físico. O que muda, e me incomoda um pouco, é que a porta USB-C não é alinhada com o meio do aparelho, mas sim mais para o o cabo do carregador e ver que as coisas não estão alinhadas, dá um frio na espinha do meu não há onde guardar a S Pen pro lado de dentro do corpo do aparelho, como fazem os Galaxy Note. Você vai precisar guardar em um local onde não vai perder. Até dá pra colocar grudada nos ímãs da lateral do tablet, só que encontrar o ponto exato onde tudo fica firme e seguro é por fim, os quase 440 gramas de peso são confortáveis para momentos em que você segura o Tab S3 com ambas as mãos, mas pesados para quando você está com uma só. Poderia ser um ponto negativo, mas os tablets grandes são assim e bom som e boa tela tambémA tela é de 9,7 polegadas, com tecnologia Super AMOLED, resolução de 2048 x 1536 pixels e é compatível com HDR. Infelizmente é raríssimo encontrar algo que tire proveito disso, mas imagine assim você poderá, no HDR, ver partes da imagem que estavam muito escuras, exatamente da mesma forma como o HDR da sua câmera melhora a foto como um todo. Entendeu? Só não vai aproveitar muito, já que conteúdo com HDR é este ponto de lado, a tecnologia Super AMOLED é a velha de guerra que amamos por aqui. Contrastes fortíssimos, cores vivas e ângulos de visão generosos. Se você é um dos que prefere cores mais reais e saturação controlada, é só ir nas configurações e ajustar a tela para o modo básico. Nele, as cores ficam mais fiéis, algo que lembra bastante telas IPS áudio também recebeu atenção especial e evoluiu bastante, quando comparado ao Tab S2 de um ano e meio atrás. Agora são quatro saídas de som, sendo duas na parte de baixo e outras duas na parte de cima. Esta solução tem muitos pontos positivos, como um som ainda mais alto, mais envolvente e que não é abafado pelo usuário. Não importa como você segura o tablet, sempre terá ao menos dois falantes enviando som para você. Por fim, o acelerômetro do aparelho configura também o som. Independente de qual orientação você segura, as caixas de som são configuradas para sempre ter o melhor aproveitamento o Tab S3 lembra o S7, desta vez no lado de dentro. São poucos e raros os apps que aproveitam a tela maior, mesmo dentro dos próprios apps do Google. O Google Maps utiliza bem este espaço extra, mas o Google Drive não! Entendeu? Continuando…O desempenho, com tanto hardware, é exemplar. Rodei uma série de aplicativos ao mesmo tempo, de opções mais leves até outras mais pesadas e nada. Nenhum engasgo ou travamento. O Snapdragon deu conta do recado e os 4 GB de memória RAM conseguiram segurar tudo que estava jogos, a Adreno 530 também lida com folga. Testei títulos pesados como Injustice 2 e Asphalt Xtreme, todos rodando no máximo e sem quedas visíveis na taxa de quadros por segundo. A compatibilidade com a API Vulkan ajuda bastante e vai empolgar quem quer o tablet para problema aparece quando você tenta tirar proveito de toda a tela grande que está aqui. A Samsung até trouxe versões do Word, Excel e PowerPoint que ficam bem semelhantes ao que temos nos computadores, mas quando você vai para o Play Store e baixa, por exemplo, o Docs do Google, não vê mais este aproveitamento. Outros apps também sofrem com isso, como o Facebook. Sim, ele exibe mais conteúdo quando está na horizontal, mas...olhem só a quantidade de conteúdo extra que aparece quando eu abro o Facebook no Chrome! É muito mais coisa, no mesmo tamanho de ponto poderia ser questionado pela forma de interação com dedos, mas o Tab S3 vem com a S Pen na caixa, sem custos extras. Ela funciona como um ponteiro de mouse muito preciso e permite botões menores para isso. O Instagram, por exemplo, sequer permite utilizar o app na orientação de tela que estava até agora. Mesmo com a orientação travada, o app força ele a rodar de depois do Android que juntou tablets e smartphones num só sistema operacional, a imensa maioria dos apps ainda é feita focando no uso de um smartphone. Não no de um tablet e é nisso que o iPad toma a dianteira e continua lá por anos. Por lá o número de apps que tira proveito da tela grande é muito, mas muito para as soluções da Samsung, a S Pen continua como a melhor caneta que você pode utilizar em telas de toque - melhor até do que a Apple Pencil, que é um….lápis? A da Samsung tem exatamente as mesmas funções da linha Note. Isso significa que você pode fazer anotações com a tela desligada e apertar o botão dela para abrir um menu com extras, como traduzir uma palavra para outro idioma, criar uma nota e até fazer uma captura de tela e desenhar ou escrever por ponta da S Pen tem 0,7 milímetros de espessura e faz fricção o suficiente com o vidro para não dar a impressão de que você não está num papel. Desenhar é muito confortável, pecando apenas em um ponto bastante chato não há modo que cancela o toque da mão na tela, quando você desenha ou escreve. Parece bobeira, mas não poder ficar com a mão apoiada na tela, tira parte do conforto de utilizar a outro lado, a stylus é maior do que nos Galaxy Note e encaixa quase que em um tamanho tradicional de caneta. De fato, é a melhor caneta que existe para telas. E, diferente da Apple Pencil, não precisa recarregar a pensei em, sinceramente, pular este ponto. Você não deve utilizar um aparelho deste tamanho para tirar fotos das férias, ou uma selfie para redes sociais. Mas...ok, vamos 13 megapixels na parte traseira, com abertura de f/ e que pode até filmar em 4K com 30 quadros por segundo. O resultado fica em fotos que exibem cores de forma bem balanceada, mas que sofre com o HDR - que está escondido dentro dos modos de fotografia. Ele não consegue trabalhar tão bem por aqui, como faz no S7. Este seria um ponto negativo, mas, convenhamos, a única utilidade de fato de uma câmera traseira em tablet é de escanear documentos ou fotografar bem raramente, certo? O smartphone é muito mais portátil e está sempre no seu bolso, algo que o tablet não fotos noturnas recebem ajuda da abertura grande, mas o foco é teimoso e nem sempre fixa no ponto em que você toca na tela. O nível de granulado foi baixo nas fotos que eu tirei. Bem bacana para um... a câmera frontal é de 5 megapixels e lida bem com chamadas de vídeo e algumas selfies descompromissadas. Nada além e acessóriosPor dentro são de bateria, que...sinceramente, poderia ser maior. E eu falo isso quando comparo com o iPad Pro de mesmo tamanho de tela, que tem mais de extras, com espessura muito semelhante e quase que mesmo peso. Dava pra dar um fôlego extra por assim, com menos bateria do que seu principal concorrente, o Tab S3 não faz feio não. No teste de reprodução de vídeo via Wi-Fi, com brilho no máximo, o tablet da Samsung registrou descarga média de 15% por hora. Utilizando no cotidiano, com vídeos, produzindo textos e navegando na web, consegui perto das 10 horas com a bateria extra não faz muita falta, mas...ter 20% a mais de bateria, poderia dar uma hora extra de uso. Vale a pena, principalmente para um aparelho que não precisa ser tão fino e a pena?O Galaxy Tab S3 entrega um dos melhores desempenhos em tablets com Android, tem, de longe, a melhor caneta para telas de toque que vai deixar até mesmo artistas animados. E ainda tira algumas fotos boas. O problema dele não veio da Samsung, não está no hardware. É o software. A lista de apps que tira bom proveito de telas grandes é pequenina e, quando você olha para a produtividade que um Chromebook entrega, fica complicado pensar no Tab S3 para isso. Pra você é consumidor de mídia e gosta de ter isso em uma tela enorme, este é seu próximo tablet. Se quer utilizar para trabalho, minha experiência própria é de apontar um Chromebook. O Chromebook Plus, da própria Samsung, tem teclado físico confortável, versão completa do Chrome, roda quase que todos os apps de Android e é mais utilizo o Chromebook para muita coisa e ele é a melhor ponte entre um tablet Android e um computador. Para produtividade, ele é o campeão, só que para assistir séries do Netflix e jogar, o Tab S3 vence. Ah, a S Pen dele é bem melhor do que a que vem no a Samsung não nos enviou o teclado que vai conectado nestes pontos que ficam na base do Tab. Eu já utilizei ele e a produtividade melhora, mas ainda assim não ganha do claro, o Tab S3 custa R$ 3 mil no site oficial da Samsung e já vem com a S Pen na caixa, sem custar nada além por isso. Pra você, vale a pena?
